About Swansea Wheelers

The Swansea Wheelers Cycling Club (C.S. Abertawe) has a reputation for being a small club with a friendly atmosphere - whilst still retaining its competitive edge.

The primary objective of the club is 'To promote and encourage the sport and pastime of cycling, by providing incentives for members to develop as individuals, and in competition, concurrently promoting the club'

The focus of the club is always to achieve the above objective whilst reflecting the needs of its members. At present this leans heavily towards traditional road riding with an emphasis on sportifs, racing and time-trialling during the summer months.

Where and when do we meet?

More details can be found on the individual pages, but in summary:

· Club night is every Wednesday at Llansamlet Community Centre (behind the Plough and Harrow pub) starting at 7.30pm
· Sunday morning is a more sociable training ride (with a monthly new members ride) meeting to leave at 9.30am.
· Note: NOW is a great time to get out and start building up those miles, and to try and increase our membership we will run a beginners ride ANY Sunday in January, February or March but it helps if you can let us know in advance that you will be attending email us

Further to these recognised club rides, members do get together for other regular training sessions with other groups of cyclists.
Email Nick Ost for more details, but training includes fast paced chaingang rides around the lakes on Llansamlet Enterprise Zone on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the Winter, and a challenging longer ride on a Saturday.

How do I join (or find out more)?

If you are interested in becoming a Swansea Wheeler we can recommend several approaches:

· Come down to the club and say hello on a Wednesday evening
· If you are relatively new to cycling but capable of cycling 20-30 miles then why not join us for an introduction ride on the second Sunday of every month
· If you are a regular 30+ miler and comfortable with the pace/distance of the regular club run then do feel free to come along on any Sunday
· Additionally, any contact listed on these pages will be happy to answer your questions.

The club is always on the lookout for new members and encourages potential members to try out a few rides and/or club nights to see if the club is right for them. Alternatively, if you feel a little daunted by the distance or pace of our rides then you could try the Cyclists Touring Club who are an excellent organisation and help novice riders get into cycling with advice and more leisurely rides, contact them via http://www.ctc.org.uk/
