Gateway to the Beacons Road Race 6th August, 2006

Following another highly successful running of the races here are Sunday's results. Well done to all those who took part, particularly the winners, and thanks to all those who helped out with the race organisation and marshalling.

Welcome to the 2006 running of the Gateway to the Beacons Road Race. Last year saw a record level of entries and we fully expect this year's race to be as well supported and successful. The race details are unchanged from last year and this page displays the start sheet as entries arrive, race route and contact details.

Race HQ: Abercrave Rugby Club, with the E123 race starting at 11.00 and the 34WJ race at 11.10.

Course Directions

E/1/2

Proceed north on A4067 Swansea to Brecon Road for a neutralised section of 0.9m to commence racing at the Brecon Beacons National Park stone on riders� left. Continue northwards towards Ynyswen (1.5m) Pen y Cae (2.1m) Dan yr Ogof Show Caves (3.8m). Continue through Crai (10.1) to Defynnog (12.9m) turn right with care on to A4215 to Prime at 14.5m. Continue to junction with A470T, left to Brecon (18.1m). At roundabout 2nd left on to A470T (21.7m) to Sennybridge (29.0m), left (Swansea A4067) to retrace to Defynnog (30.0m) where turn left to retrace route via A4215 to junction with A470T, left to Brecon (35.2m). At roundabout 2nd left onto A470T (38.8m) to Sennybridge (46.1m), left (Swansea A4067) to return to Abercraf through Defynnog (47.1m), Crai (49.9m), Pen y Cae (57.7m), Ynyswen (58.5m) to turn left on to A4221 (60.4m) to finish up hill at 61.5m

Proceed north on A4067 Swansea to Brecon Road for a neutralised section of 0.9m to commence racing at the Brecon Beacons National Park stone on riders� left. Continue northwards towards Ynyswen (1.5m) Pen y Cae (2.1m) Dan yr Ogof Show Caves (3.8m). Continue through Crai (10.1) to Defynnog (12.9m) turn right with care on to A4215 to Prime at 14.5m. Continue to junction with A470T, left to Brecon (18.1m). At roundabout 2nd left on to A470T (21.7m) to Sennybridge (29.0m), left (Swansea A4067) to retrace to Abercraf through Defynnog (30.0m) , Crai (32.8m) Pen y Cae (40.6m), Ynyswen (41.4m) to left turn on to A4221 (43.3m) to finish Slightly uphill at 44.1m

Directions to HQ

From M4: exit Junction 45 onto A4067 signposted Pontardawe. Continue northwards about 14 miles to Abercrave village. About 0.8 miles after the blue 'Abercrave' sign turn left into the village, after another 200 yards take the first turning left. Then take the 2nd left into Henneuadd and follow the road around to the left through the residential area to the Rugby Club.
From Brecon: Take A40 to Sennybridge, left onto A4067 signposted Swansea. Continue southwards to Abercrave village.

The event HQ is the Abercrave RFC which is approximately 200yds from the start and a mile from the finish. Changing room facilities and showers will be available. Please show consideration for the residents. Please note that the race promoters will not accept responsibility for any valuables left in the HQ.
