Introductory Rides

Introductory Rides

A new initiative this year (but only just) is the provision of regular 'introduction rides' to be run on the second Sunday of each month commencing 11th December 2005. These rides are open to everyone (you don't have to be new) but they will offer a valuable opportunity for newer riders to meet others, develop their road skills, fitness and confidence levels, and get to know some relatively easy routes which they can ride in their own time.

What do I need to know about the introductory rides?

  • They will take place on the second Sunday of every month
  • They will leave Llansamlet Community Centre at 9am prompt (arrive for 8.45am)
  • They will be approximately 25-30 miles (total distance)
  • They will be ridden at approximately 14/15 mph.
  • There will be a 'mid-point' coffee shop stop
  • The ride will return to the Community Centre

What do I need to bring?

  • Equipment: A roadworthy bike, 2 spare inner tubes, tyre levers and a pump
  • Food: A snack (e.g. banana/cereal bar) is often appreciated by the cyclist
  • Drink: Water, weak squash or a sports drink, preferably in a bike bottle
  • Clothing: Whatever you are comfortable in but a packed waterproof is always recommended
  • Miscellaneous: Consider cash for the coffee stop and your mobile phone if you have one

Anything else I need to know?

There will always be a senior club member to accompany the group on these rides

Riders will not be left behind unless there are exceptional circumstances

Please note

whilst the club will endeavour to escort you on a safe ride, accidents do sometimes happen and the club does recommend all riders take out 3rd Party insurance. This can be arranged privately or via other organisations such as the Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC) or the British Cycling Federation (BCF) who offer good deals via membership of their organisations.
